Shipping Supervisor - 2nd Shift

Position Summary

The Shipping Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision, training, retention, and engagement of hourly operating and/or maintenance staff within the Shipping and Receiving areas of the facility.  This position is responsible for leading groups of hourly employees in the achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to shipping performance, efficiency, and both food and workplace safety.  The incumbent will present a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts, and will work toward facilitating a team atmosphere within the Service Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans manpower requirements for the Shipping and Receiving areas in accordance with production requirements
  • Manages the loading and dispatch of finished products in an efficient and timely manner to meet delivery requirements
  • Manages and ensures efficient organization of the raw material cooler, finished goods storage, and dry goods inventories
  • Manages the supply of raw material to the production staff
  • Provides the shipping and receiving teams with committed leadership on lean manufacturing principles and continuous process improvement techniques.  Reinforces his/her commitment to continuous process improvement within the two areas
  • Facilitates achievement of Company objectives in terms of product quality, efficiency targets, and customer service targets
  • Tracks and monitors hourly staff attendance.  Administers corrective action in line with Company policy
  • Provides a safe working environment for all employees
  • Enforces compliance with Company Policies and all relevant State and Federal regulatory requirements
  • Interacts with customer, demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and customer service
  • Enforces HACCP procedures
  • Trains and enforces food safety SOP's
  • Monitors and enforces GMP's
  • Trains and develops hourly staff on the operation and routine maintenance of pertinent equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, pallet wrappers, etc.).
  • Conducts accident investigations within the shipping and receiving areas
  • Conducts regular safety training
  • Additional duties as assigned

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Strong knowledge of production/warehousing control software
  • Motivates staff and fosters a collaborative and cooperative environment
  • Effectively manages conflict from complaint through resolution phase
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in accomplishing tasks


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience directly related to shipping/receiving operations and supervising related crews
  • Strong knowledge of warehousing practices
  • Certified powered industrial vehicle operator and trainer
  • Strong knowledge of safe work practices and enforcement
